Clipper Race – Race 2 Day 6: Derry~Londonderry~Doire The Leader Of The Pack.
Guess what song is going around in my head now!
Looks like my fellow LePrixSeans on board the good ship Derry~Londonderry~Doire are working hard day and night to keep the boat moving fast towards Rio and have taken over the lead from Henri Lloyd. However, with the boats so close to each other and the Doldrums yet to be crossed, I am sure that leadership of the race will change hands a few more times before the fleets arrival in Brazil.
Race 2 Day 6 Skipper Sean’s report has also be posted.
Cool – and they’re still out in front! Sounds like super downwind sailing they’re having
I know! Some of the boats have reached speeds in excess of 30 knots in the North Atlantic… I don’t think they were expecting to see those speeds until the Southern Ocean!
And now they have a nice wind angle to the scoring gate. BTW, what routing software & GRID data do they use? I’m assuming its the same for all boats.
According to Skipper Sean’s latest report (http://tinyurl.com/pbeggu8), they will make the decision today whether to go through the scoring gate for the points, or line up for a more favourable doldrums crossing.
Yes, all the boats have the same equipment on board, and use SeaPro from EuroNav. http://tinyurl.com/nzn97au. GRIB files are sent daily (I think) and can be overlaid on the chart if I remember rightly.
